Bos Bok is our wooden lodge in Pirates Creek, right on the Touw River.
It's the kind of place where the days sort themselves out. Coffee on the deck while the river is still flat, a walk down to the beach, a paddle upriver, then the braai going as the sun drops behind the hills.
Inside it's light and easy. There's a proper kitchen, a long table that fits everyone, comfy couches under the stairs, and glass doors that open straight onto the deck. Upstairs, the main bedroom has a high pine ceiling and its own little balcony looking over the trees.
Bosbok is Afrikaans for bushbuck. Keep an eye on the edge of the trees.
Pirates Creek is a small, gated estate of wooden lodges right on the Touw River. You can walk to the beach in about ten minutes, the village is just around the corner, and the national park starts a little way upriver.

The river runs right past the estate and on up into the national park. Bring a fishing rod and binoculars. The kingfishers are always about.
Miles of sand and hardly ever crowded. Great for a morning walk, a swim on a calm day, or watching the sun go down.
The Half-collared Kingfisher Trail follows the river through the forest to a waterfall. It's an easy walk, so the kids can do it too.
Drive up for the view of the Kaaimans River curving into the shape of Africa. On a good day you can go tandem paragliding from up there.
A quick stop on the N2 to look out over the sea. Dolphins are often around, and whales in season.
A tiny sheltered bay that's lovely for a swim, the rock pools or a surf, with somewhere to grab lunch.
Joplins steakhouse is a short walk away, and the village has cafés, sushi and seafood for a night off from the braai.
Saturday mornings in Sedgefield. Go early, grab breakfast from one of the stalls, and stock up on local produce.
Spend a day at the Knysna Heads and waterfront, or carry on to Plett's beaches. Stop at Timberlake Village for coffee on the way.
